An unusual excursion offered twice daily in the early morning or the late afternoon on private estate near Victoria Falls. This is an elephant experience rather than an elephant safari (although game and birdlife can be encountered while riding) and guests are encouraged to interact with the elephants and experience them close up as well as ride them through the african bush. The excursion lasts 3-4 hours and begins with a half hour transfer to the Estate followed by a debriefing and short training session where you can witness the bond between each elephant and his keeper. There is also a lunchtime excursion where guests can interact with the elephants (BUT NOT RIDE THEM) and then have some lunch and return to town.
Training is an integral part of the elephant’s life and the grooms are friendly and knowledgeable. The elephants are then saddled and follow game trails led by an armed guide on foot. Both the morning and afternoon excursions offer either a bush breakfast or sundowners and snacks respectively before the transfer back to the Falls and your hotel. You should wear long pants or jeans, a good hat and sensible walking shoes and there is an age limit of 16 years of age. This is a marvellous opportunity to learn about these proud animals and actually touch an African elephant.
